Douro Valley, Portugal. I was so fortunate to travel to Portugal in September 2011, courtesy of the Center for Wine Origins. During the trip, I spent time in Oporto and stayed at the stunning Yeatman Hotel as well as in various parts of the winegrowing region called the Douro Valley. Part of the trip included staying at quintas, or Portuguese vineyards, to learn more about the Douro Valley. Douro is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for the production of Port, a type of fortified wine. This particular photo is from Quinta Nova—one of my favorite Douro vineyards of the trip—which had particularly stunning views of the Douro. To this day, I still dream about the heavenly beauty of Portugal, and the divine Ports and local foods.
